Northern Railway General Manager Vishwesh Chaube visited Ambala and met the family and relatives of the children who had tragically died due to accidental drowning in the out-of-use swimming pool at the railway premises in Ambala Cantt.
He expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the children and extended all his support to them in their time of grief.
Mr.Chaube also visited the swimming pool, which is yet to be opened for use in the coming summer. The swimming pool was closed for winters and was due for cleaning before being opened for summers. It is believed that the children strayed into the closed swimming pool building and drowned accidentally.
The swimming pool has a boundary wall and is manned during the swimming season. In view of this accident, the General Manager instructed the Divisional Railway Manager to erect a barbed wire fence over the boundary wall immediately to prevent curious outsiders from jumping over the wall and climbing inside the swimming pool. During winters, swimming season is over and pool premises are locked. But due to sporadic rains, there is a possibility of water getting accumulated in the pool, a barbed wire fence would doubly ensure that outsiders do not enter the building thereby preventing any accidents.
As a mark of respected for the departed souls, Northern Railway cancelled all celebrations at Ambala. There was an Inter-divisional Cultural Competition 2017-18 (Dance Competition) today and hundreds of artists from all over the Northern Railway had come to participate. They too expressed their solidarity with the family of the deceased children and observed two minutes of silence as a mark of respect for the departed souls. All members of railway fraternity in Ambala Division, including the artists who had come from far away, decided not to observe any festivities that mark such competitions. Mr.Chaube gave away the prizes to the recipients in a solemn and simple manner.
