Surjewala demands White Paper on new investment and shifting of industries from Haryana
North India Kaleidoscope Bureau
Senior Congress leader and Communication in-charge of the Indian National Congress Randeep Singh Surjewala has described the shifting of Maruti Swift’s manufacturing plant from Haryana to Gujarat as a proof of the utter failure of state’s BJP Government. He has demanded an explanation from Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and white paper from the state government on the real investments and shifting of existing industries from the state during the BJP regime.
In a statement here today, the former Haryana Industries Minister and Kaithal MLA, Mr. Surjewala said that the BJP regime has proved to be a complete failure in maintaining law and order and providing conducive atmosphere and environment for industrial investment. No big ticket project has arrived in the state in the last four years and the already established world-class companies like Maruti were shifting from Haryana. This development will have a hugely adverse effect on the state’s investment and there will be a notable decrease in the revenue and employment to the youth of the state. Naturally, it will adversely affect the general public as increased tax burden, he added.
Swift model, which started in 2005, is considered to be the best-selling Maruti car in India and has touched the sales figure of 18 lakh units. Suzuki’s first production unit has started in Gujarat, the work for the second unit has already started and is slated to start in 2018-19 while the third production unit has also been proposed, whereas, on the other side, the clouds of uncertainty looms large on the already established manufacturing units in Haryana. Despite the favourable advantages like the proximity of the state to Delhi and the well-established car industry, the Maruti Swift industry’s shift to Gujarat is a cause of huge concern, Mr Surjewala added.
Mr Surjewala reminded that Japanese companies always considered Haryana as the most preferred state for their investments and almost 80 percent of the total Japanese investment in India landed in Haryana only. But due to mal-governance and misplaced priorities of the BJP regime, no notable investment has taken place in the state during the last four years, he added.
Despite the repeated warnings, the state government has failed to stop the shifting of industries, which will cause deadly blow to the interests of the people of the state and lakhs of talented and hardworking youth of the state would get deprived of employment opportunities. BJP’s inefficient and weak leadership is responsible for all this and the people of the state will never forgive the BJP for the same, he further added.
Mr. Surjewala emphasized that Maruti manufacturing plant was set up in Gurgaon during the Congress regime, thereby opening the new avenues of development in entire South Haryana. After the Maruti, many industries were established in Gurgaon, Manesar, Dharuhera, Rewari and lakhs of youth got employed in the state.
Mr. Surjewala sought the outcome of Chief Minister Mr. Khattar- led mega delegations visits to USA, Canada, Japan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai. Crores of tax payers money got wasted in those foreign jaunts but the people are yet to see any real outcome except the unimplemented MoUs. Apart from this, scores of crores of rupees have been wasted in organising events like ‘Happening Haryana’, ‘Pravasi Diwas’, other conferences and roadshows in different parts of the country but no new investment has come to the state in the last four years despite the tall claims of Rs. six lakh crore new investments by the Chief Minister.
He charged that this government only believes in making big announcements, but fails in their implementation on the ground. He said that the announcements made by the Chief Minister two years ago are yet to see the light of the day and China’s multinational conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group’s $10 billion real estate project is one such glaring example, he further added.
