Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ashok Tanwar, who was leading the “Haryana Bachao-Privartan Lao Cycle Rally” from Kalka town in Panchkula district to Chandigarh to gherao the Haryana Vidhan Sabha here, was taken into preventive custody by Chandigarh Police on the border between Panchkula and Chandigarh along with his supporters. The Manimajra Police later released him and other leaders and workers on “personal bond”.
Dr.Tanwar told the media that the Khattar regime in Haryana had flopped fully and with the failure of law and order machinery, the labour, small businessmen and the youth “have a deep resentment in their hearts against the BJP government.”
He said that the “Haryana Bachao-Privartan Lao Cycle Rally” of the Congress is aimed to raise the voice of people and the government’s efforts to crush the voice of the people of Haryana cannot be silenced now.
Protesting against the police action, Dr. Tanwar said that the Congress workers were going to gherao the Vidhan Sabha in a democratic way peacefully. “We have already been subjected to arrest a number of times but we will not bow down before the highhandedness of the BJP government in Haryana,” he asserted.
The cycle yatra, which will be covering all the 90 Vidhan Sabha constituencies, in its first stage, will cover districts of Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Ambala and Kurukshetra.
