PGIMER organises Workshop on Cervical Cancer Screening and Prevention

The prime focus at the “PRATISHRUTI” workshop on “Cervical cancer screening and prevention” was on discussing new concepts and recent updates on cervical cancer screening in women.
FOGSI (Federation of Obstetricians & Gynaecological Societies of India) under the aegis of FIGO had organized the workshop along with the Dept. of Obst. & Gynae, PGIMER on Sunday at the Institute’s Lecture Theatre here.
According to PGI official spokesperson Manju Wadwalkar, the workshop was attended by about 150 delegates from various parts of Chandigarh, Punjab and Delhi. It was inaugurated by Dr. Vanita Suri, Prof. & Head, Deptt. of Obst. Gynae, PGIMER, President of Obst. & Gynaecological Society of Northern India and expert in preventive oncology.
The sessions had speakers summarizing the topics like New Trends, Understanding the etiopathogenesis of cancer cervix by Dr. Bindiya Gupta, Senior Faculty, UCMS, Delhi.  Primary prevention of disease with HPV Vaccination by Dr. Vanita Suri while Dr. Shalini Rajaram, Senior Faculty, UCMS, Delhi deliberated on Changes in clinical diagnosis & management of cancer cervix over the years. She also spoke about how to interpret the results of new diagnostic tests and need of additional tests for confirmation.
Another interesting session on practical aspects of a diagnosis like colposcopy by Dr. Rashmi Bagga, Professor, Obst. & Gynae and managing preinvasive lesions by Dr. Ashima Taneja, Prof. & Head, DMC, Ludhiana, was followed by video session of conducting the LEEP for removing the diseased tissue by Dr. Seema Chopra, Assoc. Professor, Obst & Gynae, PGIMER.
Panel Discussion on clinical scenarios by Dr. Neelam Aggarwal, Addl Prof., Obst & Gynae, PGIMER and Dr. Bharti Goel, Consultant, GMCH, Chandigarh completed the academic feast.
