CHANDIGARH:

The PGIMER here on Thursday received a donation of Rs. 20 lakh for the Eye Bank Society, PGI, Chandigarh from Jagminder Singh Bawa, President-Region India, Vibracoustic Noida Private Limited, under the corporate social responsibility fund.   

Donations to the Eye Bank Society, PGI, Chandigarh are exempted under Section 80G (5) (vi) of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

A formal programme was held at the Director’s office in the presence of Prof. Jagat Ram, Director, PGI, Chandigarh, Mr.Amitabh Avasthi, Deputy Director (Admn), Mr.Kumar Abhay, Financial Advisor, Prof. M. R. Dogra, Prof. A. K. Jain, Prof. Amit Gupta and Mr. Jagminder Singh Bawa, President-Region India, Vibracoustics. 

  The Advanced Eye Centre, PGI, Chandigarh has assured the firm that this financial assistance will help strengthen the working of the Eye Bank, PGI and will subsequently reduce the patient waiting list.  Most of these patients suffering from corneal blindness in the waiting list belong to the economically weaker sections of society from all over North India.

 At present, the Eye Bank at PGI is collecting 800-850 eyes and around 500 Cornea transplants are being done annually.  To improve the overall efficiency of the Eye Bank and to adopt the best practices, the Eye Bank urges Corporate Groups and individuals to make donations so that the existing patient waiting list at PGI can be minimized  and the surplus tissue can be given to the nearby Hospitals.
