CRY, MY BELOVED CHANDIGARH-1
When any department/ organisation in Chandigarh–the City Beautiful–applies for permission to dig up the ground for any purpose, why the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation or the Chandigarh Administration does not inform them about the pipelines or cables already laid there or ensure that the existing trees are not damaged.
There should be a time frame for digging and then putting back the soil. The dug up area should be properly cordoned off. Fine should be charged in case of non- compliance ( this should add to CMC coffers). The digging process should be strictly supervised.
The photographs clicked by me in Sector 51 demonstrate that the warning sign indicating that there is a gas supply line underneath lies far from where it was originally placed. The logical question is who displaced it and why it was not put back.
The story is clear. The ground has been encroached by several unlicensed vendors including those selling foodstuff which they cook there in proximity to the gas supply line which poses a big hazard. It can be a big tragedy in making as these vendors, including a cycle repair wallah, get many customers who smoke with impunity and throw the matchsticks or beedis or cigarettes on the ground with utter callousness.
Furthermore, the problem has been compounded with unauthorised bus parking lot coming up on the ground.
The authorities must finally wake up from their slumber and take decisive affirmative action urgently.
